• Two things show little wit,

    The full or empty cup;

    If full, then empty it;

    If empty, fill it up!”

    The Heritage Hunt Wine Club pursues a mission of sharing quality wines, and presenting vineyards, wineries, and wine-makers from around the world.  Whether you’re new to wine or an experienced oenophile, you’ll be at home at our wine-tasting events.

    The June meeting was a presentation and tasting of wines from Rappahannock Cellars.  Unfortunately, I was out of town and could not attend.  However, several of those in attendance have informed me that the meeting was a great success and that, once again, the cheese plate was excellent.

    The July meeting was planned to be the wines of Narmada Winery.  Who would have thought that there could be wines influenced by Indian heritage right here in northern Virginia?  I am sure those in attendance had a unique experience.  As this meeting was not yet held at the time of this article’s submission, a full report will be included in next month’s article.

    For those members whose preference is more along the lines of socializing with wines than with wine education, the August meeting will be right up your alley.  The plan as of this writing is for there to be a round robin format of wines from a local distributor.  Club members will “float” among stations sampling various wines and completing a personal evaluation of those sampled.  Expect cheese and fruit to accompany the wines.  Although we will list this as an event in the Great Oak Ballroom, the board may opt for this to be an outside event on the clubhouse grounds.  Be watching your e-mail, HHTV, and/or the poster in the clubhouse entry for the exact location.

    A reminder that our web site is up and running.  Please check it out (http://heritagehuntwine.club/).

    25 club members had the pleasure of participating in a June excursion to Granite Heights Winery organized by Anne Coulter, Tours and Excursions Committee Chairperson.  The owner/wine maker Luke Kilyk, his wife Toni, and his brother Matt presented an excellent wine and food pairing of two whites, three reds, and a dessert wine.  They also conducted a nice slide show with a history of the vineyard.  Granite Heights has great wines and they love Heritage Hunt Wine Club members visiting.

    It was super to have some new faces at the June meeting of the club board.  Great ideas are always appreciated.  Feel free to attend and help drink some wine as we plan upcoming events.  Ask anyone on the board, and they will be happy to tell you the where and when of the next board meeting (usually the following Monday at 7 pm after our monthly club meeting).

    The Great Oak Ballroom in the Clubhouse will open at 6:45pm on Monday, August 19th for our next meeting.  The meeting will come to order at 7 pm.  Reservations are required.  This meeting is open to members and guests alikeRegistration closes at noon, Tuesday, August 13th.  Cancellations after this date will incur the event fee.  Attendees registered as of that time commit to pay the event fee.  Register with Emily Russell at omieljr@aol.com or 703-743-1875.   Attendees can pay the event fee of $25/person at the door by cash or check.
